The cell is barely nine feet long, six feet wide, you could touch both walls if you stretched out your arms, and he does not need to stretch far to touch them. It was a storage closet before it was a prison, cut into the thickness of the monastery wall, and it has no window worth the name, only a slit high above his head, no bigger than a man's hand, through which a little light falls for perhaps half an hour each day when the sun stands at the right angle over Toledo.
